Question #1:

when and why did Bruce Lee break from Wing Chun?

Three theories I read:
1. Bruce promised Yip he would not teach wing chun to Americans, so he created his own method to teach out. This method kept a little wing chun but much more a combo of boxing and karate.
2. Bruce went away from wing chun and toward boxing and weightlifting after he lost to Wong Jak Man.In essence, his wing chun lost to Wong's choy li fut.
3. Bruce slowly pulled away from wing chun as he realized, over time, that blocks, like the tan sao and bong sao, were inefficient.

Question #2:

I need help with martial arts! Kung fu style to choose?

I'm trying to find a kung fu style for self-defense and enlightenment. I need one that suits me: at the moment, fifteen years old, skinny (not alot of muscle/strength), but still very fit and healthy. SO it may seem like I need a style that deals more with the power of speed than the power of strength. I'm looking for something that deals with speed, but still has a few occasional relatively powerful blows (although I suppose exceptions can be made to this if the style is so effective in other areas that some power is not needed.) I also want something that doesn't totally disperse the idea of building chi (qi); someone in an earlier question said that going sinking your body into Dantien would raise shen levels in the mind, which would mix with the body's chi. Not sure how it works, if it's true, etc., just saying. So far I've looked at Praying Mantis (particularly Northern), Wing Chun (not in very great detail, still unsure what the general style is like), Snake, Tiger, and Eagle Claw.
Praying Mantis seems very good; I like the mixture of speed, chi, and strength, though I';m not sure if it's practical or not? Wing Chun's arm movements seem effective, though as previously stated I haven't been able to unearth much detail. Snake seems good for it's fast hand jabs and low kicks. I didn't like Tiger to much once I realized it dealt more with brute force and strength over speed and chi. Eagle Claw I'm unsure of; I can't find hardly anything on it. It seems to have a good mixture of strength and kicks as well as acrobatics, but I'm unsure of the general style's differences and the speed and chi involved (so far it seems to be comparable to Tiger as far as those factors are concerned.) As far as other styles are concerned, I've ruled out (DON'T WANT) Tai Chi Chuan (doesn't seem very practical), Drunken style (teachers and schools aren't available enough), Northern Long Fist, and I'm not sure where I stand on Choy Lee Fut. ANYTHING that ANYONE can offer--websites, personal experience, opinions, experience in actual styles, knowledge, absolutely anything--will be very very helpful. I need something relaxing, fitting to my body, that increases fitness and general well-being as well as meditation and the like, and something that provides self-defense. Important Note: YOU DON'T HAVE TO CONSIDER ALL OF THE LISTED REQUIREMENTS I'VE MADE IN ONE "PERFECT" STYLE. IF A STYLE DOESN'T EXIST THAT CONTAINS ALL OF THEM, THEN JUST PROVIDE SOME STYLES THAT PERTAIN TO *SOME* OF THEM, OR LIST A STYLE FOR EACH CHARACTERISTIC. Basically what I'm trying to say is, please; anything at all could help me right now. Thank you.

Question #3:

Which martial art's style is more effective: Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu or Kyukushin Karate?

Question #4:

Choy lee fut vs San Soo?

I have an option between two Kung Fu Arts. Choy Lee Fut which is suppose to combine the north and south arts and San Soo which is from the north. My question is... which would be more effective as a present day self-defence?

Question #5:

Which marital art/combat sport do you think would be best for self-defense?

I know a lot of people like to say it depends on me the practioner and how good I am and all these following martial arts would be good.

But, consider some martial arts/combat sports do prepare you better than other martial arts. They train you quicker, more practically, get your conditioning top-notch, teach you to take a punch and give one, to groundfight, etc., etc.

Some martial arts are really just that much better than another martial art. It isn't that relative (everything is equal depends on your point of view).

So, anyway, saying that what's your opinions about these martial arts for self-defense:

#1. Aikido

#2. Judo

#3. Hapkido

#4. Submission Wrestling

#5. Japanese Jiu-Jitsu

#6. Amateur Kickboxing

#7. Amateur Boxing

# 8. Hung gar mixed with Choy lee fut Kung-Fu with San Shou sparring

#9. Tae Kwon Do

#10. Kenpo

What I am requesting is for you to go through all 10 of them one by one and tell me if you think they are garbage, so/so, or good, and why. And which one you personally think is the best for self-defense.

I am considering all of these martial arts for self-defense and would like your opinions on them especially if you have taken any of those particular martial arts.

Question #6:

choy lee fut or hung gar?

I am studying wing chun at the moment. I enjoy it very much. I want to look into another style to study. I want to learn as much kung fu as I can. Choy lee fut and hung gar seem really good. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each style to help me out?

Bruce Lee lost faith in kung fu,do you think he was very knowledgeable in other styles besides Wing Chun?

Considering Bruce did not spend a long period of time studying other kung fu styles such as Choy Lay Fut, Hung Gar, Praying Mantis, Pak Mei, etc under the grandmasters, don't you think Bruce Lee was being a bit "unfair" making such a judgement?

Question #14:

why do people believe that Bruce Lee made his own martial art?

because he was the founder of Jeet Kune Do does not mean it is his martial art he did not invent it and it is not a martial art it translates to "The Way of the Intercepting Fist" so a person who trains at a jeet kune do school gains the ability to beat any opponent to the first punch and in jeet kune do you learn wing chun judo choy lei fut western boxing mauy thai and a range of other martial arts to create the way of fighting that is formless because you "take what is useful to YOU and you reject what is useless to YOU" it doesnt matter what bruce excelled at that is what he excelled at im sure he didnt want everyone to think that jeet kune do was his martial art he just made it possible for everyone to learn to fight however they liked so to express them selves as i believe bruce put it but if anyone disagrees with my ideas on jeet kune do plz let me know i dont want to create any misconception over it but jeet kune do is NOT a martial art
what im trying to say is that people think they can become inincible by learning to fight just like bruce lee but they learn to fight however they like learning a range of styles they are not learning a single martial art system that was made up by bruce he didnt make it up he researched and kept the best fighting methods he thought worked for him but he didnt throw away the rest he kept teaching it but didnt use it all himself surely you know what i mean
EDIT: im having a bit of a dilemna here i dont know who to give the best answer to you have really opened my eyes on the matter sorry about the statement it was just getting to me the way some people talk about it probably as did i for a lot of you so sorry again i thought i knew what i was talking about ill try not to post silly questions and statements like that again

Question #15:

What is hands down the most useful form of self defense martial arts training? Please experts only.?

I live in a very seedy neighborhood and have been pysically threatened numerous times sometimes with knife, knuckle-dusters etc. I do not feel safe and want to put alot of energy into undergoing a new martial art. I am a healthy and fit 23 year old male. I frequent the gym for exersize not body building, and have done forms of karate and jujitsu at a young age, i am also extremely flexible. What form would prove best if under attack and could not escape? I have looked into choy lee fut. I want something that can be deadly if need be. I am humble and a kind citizen and by no means would use if absolutely my life at stake. Perhaps self defense that the Marine corps undertake or the like. I need to be able to have brute power over other attackers twice the height and build as i. I am fairly skinny and not overly built.

Question #16:

jow ga kung fu what do you think ? sounds great !!?

jow ga kung fu is made of ( hung gar, choy lee fut, northern shaolin kung fu )

Question #17:

Has Bruce Lee ever lost a fight?

I heard Bruce Lee had two tough fights. One that it was a draw against Wong Jack Man and a fight he lost against a Choy Lee Fut master named Lau Bun. All these supposedly happened in the early sixties. I am not sure wether or not these rumors are true or just an invention from people that hate and envy him because of his ability, trying to discredit him. Does anyone of you know about this?
